Lost in Panama: Chasing summer to Santa Catalina
Adventure Travel, Fitness & Workouts, Lost Girls, Panama — By Amanda P on September 1, 2009 at 8:00 amHola from Panama!
After a seemless and comfy trip from New York City on Continental Airlines (we each had a whole row to lay down and sleep, plus received a burrito meal tray–score!!) we arrived in Panama City and made our way by taxi ($20) to the Hotel Caribe. This random casino/hotel reminded us of our travels in Northern India (it could have been the same open air concrete stairwells, clausterphobic elevators and subarctic air-con) but at 10:30pm, we weren´t picky about where to lay our heads!
Here´s Jen and Holly reading through the Lonely Planet in our room–they´re trying to figure out what time the bus leaves, and what time we´ll have to wake up in order to make it aboard!
Next stop: Santa Catalina, a sleepy fisherman´s village turned surf destination on the the Pacific Coast. The bus from Panama City took about 5 hours and the taxi from the tiny town of Sona took another 50 minutes.

Eventually, we reached our final destination: Oasis Surf Camp. Almost immediately, we met a friendly group of travelers who invited us to join them for drinks and dinner. Here we are with Paul from Miami & Maus and Tim from Amsterdam.

We loved Oasis, and will tell you more about it in our next post!
