Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Summer Travel Means More $$, More Crowds

Air travel this summer will likely cost you more.  Some of the airlines are applying a ‘peak travel’ charge most days during the summer.  Southwest and JetBlue have not as yet added this extra charge, so if your local airport has one of these airlines flying there you may be in luck.  And for this extra charge you’ll have the added benefit of a packed plane.

Airline ‘Rewards’?

Hard as it can be to rack up enough frequent flyer miles on any one airline to score a free ticket, it’s even harder to cash them in for one.  Your best bet?  Shorter flights rather than longer and making a reservation as far in advance as you can.  Also, credit card reward programs may pay off better than any one airline’s frequent flyer program.

A Big Name for a Little Airport

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) officially opened on May 23, 2010.  ECP is located near the Panama City, Florida area and is the first completely new airport to be built in the US in over 15 years.   Southwest Airlines is a major player at this airport as well as Delta and their affiliates.  Here’s hoping the massive BP oil spill situation will get resolved soon enough for passengers to take advantage of this location.
