Beauty in the City: LG’s Favorite Beauty ExpertsCity Travel, New York City, Spa & Beauty — By Holly C on July 13, 2010 at 4:09 pm
It seems as though there’s a salon or spa on every street corner in New York, but not every beauty expert can deliver serious results with a healing touch. Here are three LG tested and approved connoisseurs if you want…
A glowing complexion: Ask for Violanda at the new Cornelia at the Pierre Michel Salon. She’ll customize your facial based on your age, diet, environment—even your emotional state. Violanda’s touch felt like butterfly wings on my face that soothed away tension, and I couldn’t help but fall asleep. When I woke up, Violanda was applying a delicious-smelling pumpkin-papaya enzyme mask to dissolve dead skin cells. My skin was clearer and brighter for more than a week afterwards, and felt baby soft.
Total-body bliss: I’m already obsessed with the Lovella Salon and with Oded, the Israeli hair stylist who seems to consider every single strand on your head before cutting it. So when I saw that Lovella offered massages too, I decided to check it out. After having some, um, inappropriate stroking techniques from male therapists in India and China, I don’t typically feel comfortable with men. But Lovella’s therapist, Edan, was completely professional while being completely in-tune with my body—he expertly released every single knot and ache. My muscles were buzzing afterward having what Edan calls “the Lovella flow.” Edan is at the salon on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, and you can also make appointments with him for other days in advance.
Thicker, longer lashes: Visit Courtney at the Courtney Akai Boutique Salon for eyelash extensions. I was admittedly freaked out about having someone glue individual lashes to each of my own eyelashes, but I heard the process meant I could skip mascara and eyeliner—and that my lashes would look full even after swimming in the ocean! Application can take up to two hours, but Courtney makes you so comfortable and relaxed it doesn’t feel like that long. She laid me down and propped my legs up on a pillow, and then we talked the whole time about everything from career to love. I’ll admit, the process can make your eyes water, but the end result is so amazing you won’t need makeup for six to eight weeks. Courtney is the only woman I’d trust to get that close to my eyes because she’s been doing it for more than five years and has the skills needed to give natural-looking results.
