Canyon Jumping vs. Skydiving: Take Your Pick in SwitzerlandAdventure Travel, Switzerland — By Lost Girls on July 2, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Before going abroad, all of my friends gave me the same advice—go to Switzerland and skydive. My mother almost fainted at the idea, but skydiving is on my ‘bucket list’ of things I want to accomplish in my life. So when I arrived in Interlaken at Balmer’s Hostel, I went to the excursion desk and made an appointment.
Well fate (and also my bank account) intervened because not only was my scheduled appointment canceled twice, but when I went to pay in advance I was told skydiving was $500! I knew it would be worth it, but considering the other trips I had booked, and the fact that you can go to Long Island Skydiving for $219 back in the states, I didn’t think it was the best decision for my finances. What could I do when I came to Switzerland with the sole intention of skydiving?
That’s when I discovered Canyon Jumping.
Attached to an 85-meter rope with a harness, I jumped 250 feet into a canyon and had the biggest rush of my life. Waiting in line to go I wasn’t nervous at all, but once I got to the edge and looked down, I thought, “Jessica, what are you thinking right now?!” But, I jumped and can honestly say it was one of the best things I have done while abroad.
My jump was done through Outdoor Interlaken, which is a big adventure company in Switzerland that offers anything from skydiving to snowboarding for really great prices. Canyon jumping is 129 franks, which is roughly equivalent to $119 US dollars, and is a much cheaper option if you are looking to save bucks but still get the adrenaline rush you’re craving.
A professional photographer takes pictures throughout the entire jump and you can order the CD for only an additional 30 franks. My only advice before you decide to take the plunge, make sure you jump high and do a sweet pose. Trust me, the pictures are worth it!
