Missed the big travel stories of the week? And the weird, wacky and insignificant ones? We’ve got your roundup right here….

Pampered Pet-care from The Mouse
Planning a trip to Disney World?  Don’t leave the pooch at home.  On August 27, Best Friends Pet Care Inc. will open a 27,000 square foot luxury facility where your beloved four-footed friend can watch films like Milo and Otis and Homeward Bound, be pampered with exclusive ice cream treats, and revel in “cuddle time,” all while you enjoy a day in the park.  Pet owners can also schedule overnight boarding for their dogs, cats or even pot-bellied pigs. Democrats To Tax Airline Fees
Think paying for that piece of carry-on luggage is a shame?  So do U.S. House Democrats who are considering taxing those extra fees that airlines charge passengers for such luxuries as seat selection and checked bags.  While some airline executives fear that such taxes will harm airlines in the long run and lead to further price increases and harm competition, House Transportation Committee Chairman James Oberstar (D., Minn.) says he hops to rein in these fees and give consumers a break.  Rep. Oberstar and Rep. Jerry Costello (D., Ill.) want to ensure that the government also gets a cut of the revenue to finance airport renovations and construction. Source: Wall Street Journal

Spirit Airlines’ Newest Spin Claims Luggage Not Essential for Travel
There’s one way to avoid those extra airline fees all together, and that’s to not even bring a bag on your next vacation.  At least, that’s what Spirit Airlines CEO Ben Baldanza suggests.  Baldanza views himself as some sort of benefactor to the less fortunate saying that by “unbundling services not essential to the transportation of passengers,” Spirit Airlines allows more cash-strapped passengers to fly cheaper.  But to charge $45 for a carry-on bag that fits in the overhead bin?  We don’t know about you, but we think a change of underwear is one of those “essential” items a girl can’t fly without. San Diego Hosts Annual Comic-Con this Weekend
Want to get your Glee on?  Or maybe you’re more of a fang banger.  Fans of such TV shows as “Glee” and “True Blood” will convene for the annual Comic-Con this weekend in San Diego to catch a glimpse of their favorite TV and film stars and immerse themselves in the behind-the-scenes worlds.  Fears of overcrowding hover over the event, which drew 125,000 visitors last year.  Although tickets for the conference sold out months ago, never fear, you can always store your fangs for next year. Excavators Unearth 18th Century Ship at World Trade Center Site
You never know what digging around in your backyard will find.  For those excavating the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan, that digging yielded the remains of an 18th century ship buried beneath the rubble.  The 30-foot vessel was the first large-scale archeological find along the Manhattan waterfront since 1982, when an 18th century cargo ship was unearthed.
