W San Diego Spa: Get A Mojito—for Your Feet

When I was in San Diego recently as the bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding, I had to wear open-toed shoes for the big day. Thanks to all the city walking that I do, my ragged feet were in desperate need of a pedicure. So I checked out the Away Spa at the W San Diego where I was staying, and discovered the Ginger Mojito foot fetish.

It sounded like exactly the kind of treatment the hotel would have—the place reminds me of a funky club complete with pumping music. But the spa is a tranquil sanctuary located on the second floor near the pool. The treatment costs $40, and you get a ginger mojito cocktail to sip while your feet are being buffed. A spa therapist soaks your feet in a bowl filled with lemongrass and muddled mint to clean them. Next, dead skin is removed with a tonic ginger scrub, and a minty foot mask is applied to revive and moisturize. To help soothe travel-weary feet, the finishing touch is an aromatherapy and reflexology massage.

If you’re more of a wine lover, the spa is rolling out vino-inspired manicures in the fall that’ll use crushed grapes to infuse skin with natural polyphenols and antioxidants. You’ll get to choose a glass of red or white to unwind with during your mani. As for the Ginger Mojito foot fetish, I’m not sure if I felt more blissfully relaxed from drinking the mojito, smelling the lemongrass and mint; or having the pedicure, but this treatment is definitely a trifecta.
