Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Safe travels this week everyone!!

Happy Hour Holidays from American Airlines

In an attempt to jolly up the holidays during the month of December, American Airlines is offering a 5@5 Happy Hour deal.  Any of their flights in the US, Canada, Mexico of the Caribbean departing between 5:00 and 5:59 pm  will be part of the celebration.  The special pricing will be available for the duration of the flight.  While $5 drinks isn’t a huge bargain, every little bit helps and we do appreciate the holiday cheer!   Source:  USAToday

It’s Not Too Late

For the procrastinators among us, there’s still time to book travel for the holidays.  You just might have to get a little creative.  By traveling on less than optimal days and exploring lodging options you can still score a deal.  The time period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is traditionally a low occupancy time for many resorts and cruise lines.  Do a little digging (or have a travel agent do it for you) and you could be rewarded with a great buy.   Source:  Smarter Travel

Should You Opt-In On Opt-Out Day?

Historically, the busiest air travel day of the year here in the US is Wednesday, November 24, the day before Thanksgiving.  Millions of airline passengers will descend on airports all over the country and brave the long lines and crowded planes to head home for the holiday.  To add to the congestion and confusion a growing group of people are calling for passengers to decline the body scanner at security and ask for a pat-down on this day.  Sure, we hate the idea of our naked image out there for who-knows-all to see, but is this the best way to voice our displeasure?  Do you really think the TSA officials are going to hurry up their pat-down so that everyone makes their flight on time?  Source:  Independent.ie

Pilots: 1, TSA: 0

In a remarkably common-sense decision, the TSA is allowing airline pilots to dispense with security screenings at US airports.  This after a Continental pilot filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security about the body scan vs. pat-down controversy.  Not everyone is thrilled about the decision…many airline passengers are of the mind that if they have to undergo the procedures, so should everyone.  Even the guy (or gal) who has the responsibility for keeping that aluminum tube in the sky and has your life in their hands anyway for the duration of the flight…   Source:  MyFoxMemphis
