Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Good Karma From Southwest Airlines

Those Southwest pilots are all right.  Last week a Southwest Airlines pilot made a decision to hold one of his flights for a mere 12 minutes to aid a passenger in need.  Not an easy feat to manage as it requires much coordination.  The passenger was a grieving grandfather hoping to make it to his dying grandson’s bedside before he passed away.  Thank solely to Southwest, he was able to make it there to say goodbye.   Source:  USAToday

Is Silence Golden?

With technology moving forward at breakneck speed, the next big thing in the air may well be cell phone use while in-flight.  Already the norm in much of the rest of the world, the US lags behind.  Overwhelmingly, the Association of Flight Attendants as well as air passengers in the US are opposed to the idea, preferring to keep their flights as noiseless as possible…aircraft noise alone is loud enough!

Sound off:  On which side of the debate will we find you?

The No-So-Serious Side Of Flying

While flying is of course a serious business, there are ways to loosen it up a bit.  The flight announcements include required information, but come on, does it have to be so dry?  Some airlines do it better than others.  From on-board contests to singing and dancing flight attendants, doesn’t it perk your flight up a bit when a little levity is added into the mix?   Source:  ABC

Common Sense For All

Do unto others and all that.  We can all probably stand to improve our ways and be a more neighborly traveler.  Think locally not only in your everyday life, but as you travel the globe too and you’ll likely have a more interesting experience wherever you are.  Plan ahead, but at the same time, don’t get so stuck on your schedule that you miss the world around you.  This and more good advice…   Source:  Chicago Tribune

Beauty Tricks At 37,000 Feet

I know I always wonder how those flight attendants do it…look fresh as a spring morning after a grueling 6+ hour flight when I know I look more like a muddy winter day.  At last, their secrets revealed!  And the good news is:  it’s not as mysterious as you’d think!   Source:  Jaunted
