Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Drink Up

Genius!  Why didn’t somebody think of this before?  Clean, filtered tap water inside airport security!  San Francisco International Airport is the first to try out this latest great idea.  No more clogging up the environment with even more empty water bottles…just remember to bring your own and you’re set.  Currently located in Terminal 3 and the International Terminal, with hopes for more to follow.   Source:  Jaunted

Not For Nervous Fliers

Hopefully you won’t ever be in a plane that needs to make an emergency landing.  If by some chance you are, and all goes well, wouldn’t you reasonably expect some sort of emotional aftercare from the airline?  Well, don’t hold your breath.  The down and dirty is that support is only required of the airline in the case of a fatal accident.  If the best case scenario prevails (and of course we hope it does) you’re on your own.   Source:  USAToday

TSA Here To Stay

There had been a ray of hope that the controversial TSA screening program would be replaced by contractors.  Indeed, there are 16 US airports who do not use the TSA services, opting instead to utilize private companies.  But the momentum has more than stalled;  it’s stopped completely.  Government screening will be the norm and no other airports will be allowed to escape the TSA stronghold.   Source:  CNN

Less Equals More

Despite all their belly-aching, airlines are making money.  There are many reasons for this recent turnaround, but one of the main ones is simple math:  less flights + more people on each flight = profit.  These days it’s rare that you get on a flight that isn’t completely full.  Add in the ‘fee for everything’ structure and the lower fuel costs and the airlines are rolling in dough.   Source: SeattlePI
