Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

What Makes Air Travelers Happy

Undoubtedly, air travel is a source of stress.  Security lines, lack of interesting diversions while you wait and bad airport food are among the many anxiety-inducing problems we may encounter.  Some airports are better at keeping the stress at bay than others. Does a glass of wine under the palm trees sound inviting?  How about browsing an art gallery?   No, none are as relaxing as a day at the beach, but they’re getting closer.    Source:  SmarterTravel

What Makes Air Travelers Sad

And on the flip side…  here is the annual list of what travelers hate about air travel – airlines in particular.  The Airline Quality Rating report for 2010 was just released.  Most airlines posted huge profits last year, but that scarcely made them any friendlier toward their customers.  Negative numbers abound in categories as varied as safety, baggage charges and likelihood of being bumped from a flight.   Source:  Yahoo

Safe Landing For United

Kudos to the pilots of the United Airlines A320 jet that landed safely in New Orleans after reporting smoke in the cockpit and a loss of electronics.  The pilots landed the aircraft using the backup system and the passengers departed via the inflatable chutes (ala Steven Slater).  And for a change the air traffic controllers involved stayed awake and did a stellar job assisting in the effort.   Source:  USAToday

New Routes

This week’s new routes are quite widespread and varied with United, EasyJet, Delta and American x 2 all represented.   Source:  Jaunted
