The world is filled with amazing opportunities everyone should experience in their lifetime. South Africa, in particular, is home to spectacular activities and events that must be added to your bucket list.
Along the garden route in Tsitikamma, Plettenberg Bay you will find the world’s highest bungee jump at FACE Adrenalin. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is a must-do. Once you sign your paper, there is no turning back: You must bungee jump. After getting suited up, a safety briefing and a short walk to the platform, a DJ fills the platform with pump up music and it is time to bungee! Once being attached to the proper cords, two staff members take you to the edge and it is one, two, three, BUNGEE! After a five to second-second freefall and a few bounces, the experience is over before you know it. It feels as if you are floating and I wanted to do it again the second I got to the top. FACE Adrenalin is fast, safe and experienced. This thrilling experience is worth every penny and is a definite addition to the bucket list. Just remember what FACE says: Fear is Temporary; Regret is Forever.
Cost: R690 ($99 US dollars) for the jump and R200 ($30 US dollars) for a professional video and pictures of the experience.
While visiting South Africa, there is no better place to see the Big Five than Krueger National Park. Since this is a park, not a reserve, there is no predicting what animals you will see. Part of the fun is going on long game drives searching for wildlife. The park has excellent accommodations on site including bungalows with air conditioning, private bathrooms and grills as well as luxury private game lodges. Meals at restaurants and food to cook on your own is available on site. Krueger also provides vacation packages to make your trip a breeze. A must do is going on night safari with the park rangers and a early morning game drive. Seeing a elephant, hyena or zebra right next to your car must be experienced by everyone so add safari in Krueger to your bucket list!
Cost: Krueger has something to fit everyone’s budget. You could spend under R500 ($72 US dollars) or over R5000 ($715 US dollars) all depending on what you want to do.
Visit Soweto- A Township Rich in Apartheid History
Soweto, a part of Johannesburg, is a piece of history that everyone should experience. Between The Apartheid Museum, Regina Mundi Catholic Church, The Hector Pieterson Museum & Memorial and more there is so much to be learned from this amazing part of Jo-Burg. Although it is not an adrenalin rushing extreme sport, the experience will leave a permanent mark on you. The rich history of apartheid will make the past come alive and allow you to have a glimpse of what life was really like under apartheid.
Cost: Admission to the different venues varies, check out their websites for up to date prices.
South Africa’s 2010 World Cup Stadiums are architecturally interesting buildings. The designs reflect the history and people of South Africa due to the colors schemes and shapes of the stadiums. Each building has an interesting tale as to why it looks the way it does. For example, the colors of Soccer City Stadium in Jo-burg are meant to represent all the races of the country. With stadiums all over the country, check out some of them out throughout your trip. You may even be able to see a concert or watch a game with some planning.
Cost: Free! To go in, check out a concert in the stadium!
