Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.
Normally one would expect to make at least one stop on the way from North America to Croatia. Air Plus is changing that assumption. This little known airline has started nonstop serice from Chicago to Zagreb, Croatia with continuing service to Belgrade, Serbia. One catch…it’s not Chicago’s O’Hare airport or even Midway, but the Chicago Rockford International Airport. If you’re not from the Chicago area, the connection confusion might make things a little difficult. Source: Jaunted
All Charged Up
Hot on the heels of last week’s cell phone charging news comes an even better deal. Hudson News, found in most airports, has partnered with KeoConnect to offer a secure and free option for charging all your electronic devices. Sounds better than being tethered to an electrical outlet. With KEO the only thing you’ll have to worry about is forgetting your device altogether and jetting off to your destination without your phone. Source: Gadling
Virtual Standstill
If you were trying to fly United Airlines over this past weekend you were probably in for a lengthy delay. Due to a computer outage all flights came to a halt for several hours. Terminal computer screens were blank as were the faces of the customer service personnel. It’s a stark reminder of just how much many businesses rely on technology. Source: Yahoo
Baggy Britches And Behaving Badly
USAirways doesn’t have a dress code, but they do insist you comply with crew members’ instructions. A recent passenger on a flight from San Francisco to Phoenix was asked repeatedly to pull his pants up to cover his underwear. He refused on the basis that he “had purchased a ticket.” Apparently that’s not a good enough reason to ignore the crew and captain. After all the passengers were de-planed because this saggy bottom wouldn’t, the police were called and the unruly passenger sealed his fate by resisting arrest. Source: CNN
Flight Of The Future
Up, up and away! A new concept jet was debuted at the Paris air show. It’s not just supersonic, it’s hypersonic! Which means it’s super, super fast. Think London to Tokyo in 2 hours flying time versus 12. All that and emission-free. It’s what the future of air travel looks like, but don’t think about buying a ticket just yet. It will be at least another 40 years before it’s available as an option. Source: AOL
