Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.
** Act Quickly **
One of my favorites, Porter Airlines, is having a fantastic 50% off sale, but tickets must be booked by September 7, 2011 for travel by December 15, 2011. Details here: Porter Airlines 50% off
Not Quite An Upgrade
Most of us can’t afford a first-class or even business-class seat when we fly so we’re stuck back in coach (economy, cattle car). More and more airlines, however, are including what’s known as Premium Economy seating on their flights. I’m not so naive to think that it’s solely for our comfort…these seats come with a price. But, if the flight is long enough and the price is right, it’s worth the splurge. Source: Jaunted
American Airlines committed a major blunder and is pulling out all the stops to right their wrong. While entrusted to the airline and in transit from New York to California, Jack The Cat went missing. The airline is aiding in the search to quite an extent – many animal lovers have vowed to boycott American until the situation is resolved. There are both a Facebook page and Twitter hashtag dedicated to the furry feline. The latest attempt is to enlist the services of a pet detective. Source: ABCNews
Safest In The Skies
All other qualities aside, safety is the number one priority when choosing an airline. The Air Transport Rating Agency has compiled their list of the 10 safest airlines in the world…6 here in the US, 4 in Europe and 1 in Asia. Still no guarantees they’ll get you to your destination on time though. Source: NY Daily News
I didn’t think it was just me who’d noticed that airline passengers’ bad behavior has gotten worse and more frequent lately. True, it’s a rough place to be – that economy class – and a nip can take the edge off, but drinking yourself into a stupor to get through a flight isn’t pleasant for your fellow passengers. We don’t want to have to all be tee-totalers for the sake of a few, but clearly something needs to be done. Source: Daily Herald
