Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Good Health In The Air

Face it, an airplane is a sort of a petri dish. Everything from the person next to you coughing incessantly to the potential for germs in your seatback pocket can undermine your healthy ways. While there are some situations you can’t avoid, there are some steps we can all take to minimize our risk. And it all sounds like something your mom’s probably been telling you all your life. Good advice not just during the crowded holiday travel season, but every time we fly. Source:  Jaunted

Turn Off Your Electronic Devices

Maybe it doesn’t make any sense to us, but rules are rules. Many people ignore the flight attendant’s direction to turn their cell phones, etc., off during the critical phases of flight. To all of our detriment. While it doesn’t happen often, it’s documented that electronic devices can and do interfere with an aircraft’s navigation system. So really, is it worth it to keep playing Angry Birds?  Source:  USAToday

TSA Claims Cupcake Contraband

Who knew? A frosted cupcake is a security risk. A TSA official at Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport seized a frosted cupcake a passenger was attempting to smuggle through security. The passenger was given the option to eat the cupcake before going through security, so apparently the concern wasn’t that it contained any actual explosives. Cupcakes are supposed to be approved items to take through security. Maybe the agent was just hungry.  Source:  Huffington Post

A Day In The Life Of Your Luggage

Delta Airlines has released a video of your luggage. Well, not yours, but a piece of luggage outfitted with several cameras to document exactly what happens to it after it leaves your hands. Ostensibly this piece of luggage made it to it’s final destination without mishap and it’s owner having to file a lost luggage claim. It actually looks like kind of a fun ride.  Source:  Gadling

New Routes

Starting next year, expect some new route schedules from REDjet, American Airlines, All Nippon, AirTran and airberlin (Vegas, baby!).  Source:  Jaunted
