Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

J’Aime Paris

When anyone asks me about traveling to Europe and asks about airlines, my stock answer is: Air France is great if you’re flying to Paris, but if you need to connect through Charles de Gaulle airport, take another airline. Neither I nor anyone I know has ever had a smooth, streamlined connection there. That may be about to change. Everything from the shopping opportunities available to the helpfulness of the airport employees is slated to be overhauled. Here’s hoping.  Source:  Jaunted

Paparazzi

Ever wonder how the tabloids find those photos of celebrities coming off a long-haul flight looking less than, well, celebrity-like? Sometimes they have help from airline employees, at least when it comes to Virgin Atlantic. One of their employees has resigned due to allegedly feeding information about high-profile passengers to the media. I guess it made for a little extra cash in her pocket if nothing else.   Source:  CBSNews

Baby On Board

While it doesn’t happen often, babies are sometimes born in-flight. Many airlines don’t have formal guidelines or restrictions governing just how far into a pregnancy a woman can be and still take to the skies. Common sense should rule, but sometimes those babies already have minds of their own and are going to make their presence known sooner rather than later. Twice in the last 2 months women (and their newborns) have made headlines by giving birth enroute. I wonder, does the entire flight count toward frequent flyer miles for the baby?  Source:  MSNBC

Take A Seat

With airline flights booked to capacity in most cases, we passengers need all the help we can get when it comes to scoring a decent seat. If you have the $$ or points for a higher class of service, go for it! But, for the rest of us, it’s not going to happen and we’re at the mercy of the gate agent. Well, not entirely. There are a few ways to decrease your chance of being stuck in the dreaded middle seat.  Source:  CNN
