Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.
TSA Cracking Down
Eight federal air marshals are being fired for allegedly drinking while on duty. An additional six are being suspended for knowing about the situation, but not reporting it as required. TSA is in charge of these employees and apparently are not taking these infractions lightly. The employees were not on active duty, but on a training day…carrying their weapons. Source: MSNBC
Flight Attendant Behaving Badly
It’s a tough job, and believe me, I wouldn’t be able to handle it, but an airline passenger has a reasonable expectation that the flight attendants will be calm and composed. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. In the latest rendition of ‘Take This Job And Shove It’ a flight attendant aboard an American Eagle flight from New York to Raleigh-Durham on Friday flipped out. Accounts vary as to whether a passenger provoked the flight attendant. Source: Yahoo
Shatner Red-Faced
William Shatner, aka Captain Kirk, didn’t seem to have things under control at LAX. He was going through the security line, minding his own business, when he was singled out for a pat-down security check. The loose-fitting clothing he’d worn for comfort on the long flight to South Africa didn’t stand up well to the scrutiny and he was left hanging with his pants somewhere around his knees. According to a recent survey the majority of airline passengers use their flight time to catch up on leisure activities. Reading tops the list along with other diversions such as watching movies, playing computer games and knitting. Sleeping ranked highly also. Working barely made the cut. Source: Chicago Tribune
