New Year’s Eve in Upstate New York

newday bandWine. Chocolate. Music. I’ll be surrounding myself with a few of my favorite things, and more importantly, some of my favorite people, to start off 2010 right. I was looking for someplace cozy and festive, and decided to go to a New Year’s Eve bash at Mirbeau Inn & Spa in the Finger Lakes region near where I grew up. Along with myself, my sisters, my boyfriend, and some friends, we’ll be dancing to live music from the band New Day, and sampling drinks and food from the gourmet buffet, champagne bar, and outdoor ice bar. There’s even a dessert station created by Pastry Chef Gore. It’s all you can eat and drink, plus live entertainment, for $125 per person.

If you can’t make it to Mirbeau for the party, it’s also a perfect place for a romantic getaway. All the rooms have private soaking tubs. The spa’s outdoor relaxation area is even better in winter because you can soak in the hot tub built into a stone grotto next to a roaring fireplace. If you use the spa, you also get free fitness classes, such as aromatherapy yoga. The wine bar is equipped with technology that lets you sample high-end wines as small as an ounce using pre-purchased card without having to buy entire glasses. You’ll also find fine-dining on site with the restaurant Savor, whose design was inspired by Claude Monet’s French country home with Provencal-style table settings and doors that open into a garden.

Despite my wanderlust, being at Mirbeau in the area where I grew up and with people I care about is exactly how I want to celebrate all the good things that have come into my life in the year that’s passed, and to look forward to the year ahead. This year my resolutions aren’t going to be about giving something up or saying what I’m not going to do (think: I’m not going to eat sweets). Instead, I want to take this time to reflect on what I did right in the last year, and to keep my promises to myself positive. For 2010, I want to feel balanced in my life between work and play, being healthy and indulging, taking care of myself and taking care of others. What are your resolutions? What do you hope for the next year to bring? A new year is all about possibilities, and we wish you the best of luck in creating your dreams, whatever they may be.
