Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

New Blue Nibbles

Jet Blue has always had a pretty liberal and decent snack policy on their flights.  Now add food-for-purchase to their menu.  On any of their flights lasting 3 hours 45 minutes or longer passengers will be able to purchase a more substantial snack.  Not to be confused with an actual meal, these food boxes will offer an assortment of crackers, jams, dried fruits and nuts, etc.  They even have catchy names:   ‘Wake Up’, ‘Beef Up’, ‘Power Up’, ‘Shape Up’, and ‘Cheer Up’.   At $6 each, these light meals could tide you over until you land and can head out for something more substantial.

BOGO on Air Berlin

Planning on flying to Germany?  Air Berlin, a low-cost airline in Germany, is offering a sweet deal.  The promotion is for their Berlin-Miami and Berlin-Dubai flights and it’s a two for one.  Yep, buy one ticket, get one free!   You’ll need to purchase by June 28, but the booking window is between November 1 and April 30!  Holidays included!  If you’re dreaming of spending Christmas in Dubai, act on this one!

New tarmac rules a bust?

So the rules don’t apply all of the time?  The new rules limiting tarmac time for aircraft apparently have limitations.  A recent diversion of a Virgin Airlines flight destined for Newark is putting the rules to the test.  The flight was diverted to the Bradley International Airport and, since the new rules limiting the tarmac time don’t apply to international aircraft, the aircraft sat at the gate for 4 hours before passengers were able to deplane.  Customs officials arrived to the airport as soon as possible, but not soon enough for the stranded passengers.
