Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

We probably haven’t seen the end of airline nickel and dimeing.  Fuel costs are on the rise and the airlines will have to recoup that somewhere.  All bets are on the passengers.  We’ve seen some of these extra charges already so the others probably aren’t so far-fetched.  Mega-bus anyone??   Source:  LA Times

Tech In The Sky

It seems like such a minor issue, but it can cause major problems.  The use of any hand-held electronic equipment in an aircraft during certain phases of flight can affect navigation.  Most of us think “It won’t make a difference, it’s just a little iPod!”  Even pilots and flight attendants aren’t immune to this kind of thinking.  But it can and has so your best bet is to just turn it all off for a few minutes.   Source:  NYTimes

Make Good Use Of Your Time

Stuck at an airport for hours?  Don’t look at it as a waste of time, embrace it!  Work if you must, but there are plenty of other options to amuse almost anyone.  Massage, shopping, wine and dine are just a few of the possibilities available at major airports today.  You might even forget you’re at an airport.   Source:  Forbes

Bright Lights

I’m not really sure why somebody would need to do this, but apparently a lot of people do.  Incidents of lasers being aimed at aircraft off the coast of the Jersey Shore are up exponentially recently.  These beams can cause distraction to the pilots of aircraft during flight.  In worse cases, they can even cause blindness.  Boardwalk vendors are cooperating by eliminating the sale of these items.   Source:  Press Of Atlantic City

Air Rage

Let’s hope that the idea of more airline fees doesn’t fuel more of this behavior.   Source:  USAToday
