Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Back To Basics For Delta

Apparently Delta Airlines excels at one thing…scoring last in customer service.  They have the dubious distinction of having the most complaints filed against them with the Department of Transportation.  In an attempt to rectify this sad situation the airline is sending it’s employees for remedial training.  11,000 employees – all directly involved with the customer – will be attending in an attempt to improve.   Source:  Gadling

It’s Facebook February!

If you don’t already have a Facebook account, now might be a good time to create one.  Gogo in-flight wi-fi equipped aircraft on Air Tran, Alaska, American, Delta, United, USAir, and Virgin America will offer free Facebook access gratis during the entire month of February.  Sure, it’s the shortest month of the year, but it’s something for nothing, so take advantage if you can and while away the flight hours.   Source:  Chicago Tribune

Frequent Flyer Programs For Dummies

No offense meant with the ‘Dummies’ comment.  It’s just that the airlines programs are notoriously difficult to understand and take advantage of.  Many people don’t even bother with them because they are either too confusing or seem useless.  Here, in plain language, is a round-up of many of the details of the popular airlines’ programs.  Included:  ways to accrue account miles without ever leaving the ground.   Source:  Smarter Travel

At Long Last

Finally, after months of public anger and insult, TSA is rolling out the new and improved body scanner technology.  The image on the screen will display a non-gender specific model instead of the verging-on-pornography version.  It’s still possible that a passenger will have to endure the unpopular pat-down process, but if you’re lucky enough to pass the scanner test you won’t have to forever wonder that the unknown eyes in the backroom are checking you out for posterity.   Source:  Jaunted

Use your American Express card to buy Dunkin’ Donuts in February and you could win some sweet prizes.   Source:  Examiner
