Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Row 44 Playing Catch Up

They’re not quite to the level of Gogo inflight, but Row 44 is trying. Previously just offering inflight WiFi, Row 44 – the provider for Southwest Airlines onboard entertainment – is poised to add more content. News, network channels and even live baseball and hockey are on the agenda and will surely be a welcome distraction for the bare-bones airline’s passengers.  Source:  Jaunted

Slim Pickings For Flights

Virtually all the major U.S. airlines announced that not only would they not be expanding their flying fleets, they may also be reducing the number of flights they schedule. Having flown a bit recently with every flight full or even over capacity, it’s hard to imagine where those cuts will come from. For the airlines it’s all about revenue and the announcements had the effect of driving stock shares up.  Source:  Seattle Times

Getting Serious About Security

So we travelers must go through extensive and thorough security screening, yet our bags sail through without even a glance? TSA is cleaning house at the airport, firing 28 of its employees after their own closed-circuit tv system revealed the fiasco. Wonder what the agents were doing instead of screening the bags?  Source:  CNN

Once a bag is carried onto a plane the vigilance drops even further. There are some basic safeguards passengers can take to make sure their possessions stay secure and intact. Source:  Yahoo
