Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

On The Go And Hungry

We’ve all been there…a layover at an unfamiliar airport, starving, not sure if we should settle for the McDonald’s right in front of us or risk venturing further afield to find something appetizing. Well wonder no more. The answer is as close as the nearest airport map. Or airport map app. In the works is even a mobile phone application that will enable you to order your meal and pay for it ahead of time to speed up the process. Fly Like A Celebrity

Imagine yourself arriving for your flight and avoiding the ticket line and security hassles. You skip the main terminal entirely and head for the private jet terminal You have the aircraft all to yourself and don’t even have to leave your water bottle behind. And, oh yeah, you’re paying around what you would pay for a middle seat in coach on an airline flight. Sound like a fantasy scenario? Not anymore. Charter airlines and private jet brokers are eager to fill their planes rather than let them sit idle and it sounds like a win-win situation.  Source:  NYTimes

Frequently Frustrated

The main reason to join an airline’s frequent flyer program is to score a free flight now and then. Some airlines make this much easier than others. The problem is there’s no definitive guide or rating system to judge which ones are worth joining. The closest anyone has come so far to ranking the programs is this survey done last year by IdeaWorks. They tested online availability only – not what you might find if you called the airline’s customer service number – and the findings are not really all that surprising. Source:  USAToday

Pan Am TV ShowPan Am Pilot

Air travel these days is such a source of aggravation that it’s hard to imagine a day when it was anything but. Those days are (probably) long gone, but we can relive them with the new and highly anticipated television show ‘Pan Am’. The first episode aired on Sunday on ABC and it seems to be a keeper. Watch and relive the glamour days.  Source:  Gadling
