Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.

Free Flight Alternatives

So maybe you don’t fly very often, or even if you do, all of your flights are not on one airline. Either way, don’t miss out on what’s coming to you – make sure to sign up for the airline’s frequent flier program anyway. Accrued miles do expire, so you’ll have to keep tabs on them but any activity on your account will keep the account active. Don’t have enough miles for a flight? There are other options…just don’t let those miles fade away.  Source:  Frommers

Catching Some In-Flight ZZZ’s

Don’t you envy those passengers who can sleep soundly on a red-eye flight? Turns out, they’re probably not sleeping as soundly as it may appear. According to sleep experts, it’s almost impossible to get a good, restful sleep aboard a flight. Many variables come into play, most of which are out of your control. That said, there are some adjustments you can make to try to make a long, overnight flight as peaceful as possible.  Source: NYTimes

Stop The Smooching

Leisha Hailey, an actress from the Showtime series ‘The L Word”, was escorted off a Southwest Airlines flight for what she describes as a modest kiss. The kiss was with another woman, and the airline’s description of the incident varies greatly from Leisha’s. She and her partner in kiss are filing a complaint against the airline regarding the alleged discriminatory action. Passengers seem to have widely varying opinions on the subject. Where do you stand on the ‘PDA on a plane’ debate??  Source:  USAToday

Baby On Board

First of all, don’t let the picture fool you…this is NOT the baby born on September 20 to a woman aboard a Philippines Airlines flight. Said baby is hopefully much smaller. Mommy was trying desperately to get to Massachusetts from Manila so her child would be born in the US and automatically be a US citizen. The baby had other ideas. The new baby – a boy – made his appearance about 4 hours shy of San Francisco. Certainly not to check out the airline food…  Source:  Jaunted
