Look up in the sky! It’s a bird….it’s a plane! No….it’s your weekly air travel news! Here’s what’s happening in the world of aviation, from the ground up.
Heathrow Not Up To Olympic Demand
If you’ve ever flown to or through Heathrow airport in London, you know what a frustrating – to say the least – experience it is. With the Olympics set to hit the city in a short 2 months, you’d think that the airport officials might have streamlined the airport process. Apparently this is not the case. Immigration lines are still excruciatingly slow and there seems to be no efficiency whatsoever. Source: Jaunted
More International Passengers
From a slump in 2011, international air travel was up 7.4% in April. That despite record passenger fees and high oil prices. What does that mean for us? Probably not lower ticket prices, but it’s certainly encouraging news for the airlines. Source: Yahoo
From One Confined Space To Another
Despite all of us legitimate passengers disrobing and getting groped at security, some airline passengers seem to be able to bypass security altogether. Last week at the San Diego airport a fresh-out-of-jail gentleman breached airport security and managed to get himself on a flight bound for Los Angeles. As in on the plane ready for takeoff. Thanks to some quick math by the flight crew who realized that they had one more person on board than planned, he was found out and gave himself up to authorities. Sure doesn’t make me feel too secure. Source: MSNBC
Sexist Man Gets Booted From Flight
In this day and age it’s really not that unusual for a female to do anything a male does. That’s why this bit surprises me: a male passenger flying on Trip Airlines in Brazil started making a ruckus when he realized that the pilot on his flight was a female. He allegedly refused to fly with her at the controls. She responded – rightly, I might add – by ejecting him from the flight. Pilots aside, do people like him not realize that there are thousands of female air traffic controllers out there telling all those male pilots what to do?? Source: The Telegraph
